The day after. Yesterday, I was doing my weekly add-on development stream on Twitch but was interrupted. A real-life Paulus Schoutsen (Founder of Home Assistant) showing up on my doorstep by surprise. Holy mother of home automations! 😲
FYI: Paulus lives in the USA, while I live in The Netherlands. So it is not like he is living next door. But since he was in The Netherlands, he thought it was cool to drop by! 🤗 (Personally, I was surprised that he arrived on a bicycle).
So, what we ended up on doing, is just talking about our favorite subject: Home Assistant. The talk was mainly fed by all the viewers that were discussing along in the chat and dropping questions on us like crazy! 💬
We discussed where the project currently is and where it is going. The most exciting part was discussing possible future features and improvements. However, we side-tracked a lot on the Internet of Things in general. In conclusion: The future is bright for Home Assistant, but it takes time to get there.
Here is the (improvised) stream recording! Almost 3! hours of Home Assistant goodness, discussions and Q&A with the father, the creator, the god, the guardian of Home Assistant.
Thanks to all of you!
First of all, I want to thank Paulus for dropping in. I really enjoyed it, and I feel honored that I had the chance to discuss Home Assistant with him extensively. 🤩
Secondly, everybody who tuned in via YouTube or Twitch: Thank you so much for all those questions and helping me getting a fascinating conversation going! 😎For the questions and chats I’ve missed: I’m sorry, the chat was going crazy! But I think we covered most / a lot.
I want to end with a major thanks to all new Twitch followers, subscribers and bits droppers, but also all the new YouTube followers. I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to thank every single one of you on stream. That would have been impossible to do on stream; you guys made me feel humble, so thank you so much. ❤️
I’m super excited and curious about what the future will behold for Home Assistant and of course, its fantastic community.

I’m so glad I didn’t miss this – I had business on the other side of town and just got back in time for the stream to start. (I hate missing a stream or leaving before the end – neither happens often!)
This was one of the most epic streams ever and that’s saying something because your usual live streams are something I look forward to all week.
